Prospect Creek is a nice little creek run just outside Thompson Falls, Montana. For a more detailed description, check out the Montana Surf guidebook.

The upper portion of Prospect Creek is very prone to collect wood, so scout carefully as you go. The last little canyon on this stretch just before it empties into the Clark Fork contains one nice drop (pictured above). This stretch can be easily combined with other runs in the general area for a great weekend - Trout Creek, Ross Creek, Vermillion River, the Yaak and the Kootenai are not far away...

Prospect Creek Logistics: Class IV/V-. Just west of Thompson Falls on Montana Highway 200, look for Prospect Creek Road on the left.

As of 5/14/07, there is one mandatory portage in the upper canyon stretch of Prospect Creek. As soon as the river starts to pick up serious gradient, eddy out to portage. The logjam is unfortunately blocking the most significant drop on the run, but a small crew with big commitment could remove the strainer and make the whole stretch runnable. We ran it at 750 cfs or so and it was about perfect (Class V-), other than the portage.
